Research

Ttu focuses on applied research in mining engineering, environmental conservation, agriculture, and entrepreneurship, leveraging its location in kenya's gemstone and mineral belt. the school of mining and geological engineering conducts research on sustainable mineral extraction, mine safety, and environmental rehabilitation, while the school of sciences and natural resources advances biodiversity conservation in the taita hills — one of kenya's most ecologically sensitive areas. partnerships with the university of trieste (italy) and the china university of mining and technology support research in mining technology and geological sciences, while collaboration with jkuat provides engineering research capacity. the university's ongoing projects address water harvesting, ict for rural development, and sustainable agriculture in semi arid environments, directly benefiting communities in taita taveta and the broader coastal region.
