Kiriri Women's University of Science and Technology (KWUST)

Founded by Dr. Paul Gachanga Ndarua, whose passion for women's education dates back to 1989, Kiriri Women's University of Science and Technology (KWUST) was established in 2002 and chartered on 2nd August 2022. Located in Mwihoko, Githurai on the outskirts of Nairobi, KWUST is the only women's university in East and Southern Africa.

The university serves over 4,000 students through two schools: Business and Management, and Computers and Information Technology. It offers BSc degrees in mathematics (actuarial, pure, statistics), computer science, and business administration, maintaining a female-only enrolment policy.

Accredited by CUE and the African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE), KWUST ranks 61st nationally. Dr. Ndarua founded the university in response to gender disparities in tertiary STEM education, creating an environment where women can explore their potential surrounded by befitting role models.

Research at kwust focuses on women in stem fields, with outputs in renewable energy, ict for development, and biomedical sciences that address the gender gap in scientific research. the school of computers and information technology conducts research on computational approaches to development challenges, data science, and ict applications for women's empowerment, while the school of business and management investigates women's entrepreneurship, ethical leadership, and gender inclusive business models. partnership with the african women in science and engineering (awse) and the association for women in science (awis) supports collaborative research on women's participation in stem careers and the barriers to women's advancement in scientific fields. un women kenya collaboration supports research on gender equality, women's leadership, and the economic empowerment of women through science and technology education. the university's institutional repository preserves and disseminates research output, with the research director coordinating publications and research activities. research output increasingly informs gender policy in stem education, women's entrepreneurship development, and ict for development, positioning kwust as a leading voice for women's participation in science and technology across east and southern africa.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
