Kabarnet University College (KUC)

Established through the Kabarnet University College Order, 2025 (Legal Notice No. 109 of 13th June 2025), Kabarnet University College (KUC) is Kenya's newest public constituent college of Moi University. The college operates from the former Moi Teachers Training College campus in Seretunin, approximately 14 kilometres from Kabarnet Town in Baringo County.

The college serves over 3,500 students through three schools: Education, Business and Economics, and Arts and Social Sciences. Its motto 'Dream, Discover and Explore' reflects its aspiration to be a premier higher education institution in social and applied sciences.

Accredited by CUE and the IUCEA, KUC ranks 71st nationally. It aims to expand access to university education in the Kerio Valley and North Rift region, with plans to develop a modern main campus and progress toward full charter status.

Kuc promotes applied research, innovation, and outreach addressing teacher education, agricultural productivity in arid and semi arid lands (asal) regions, ict, entrepreneurship, and community development. the college collaborates with the baringo county government through a signed memorandum of cooperation to jointly design and implement research projects aligned with county development priorities, exchange data and technical support, and organise workshops and training programmes. the partnership focuses on producing policy briefs, research reports, and academic publications that inform evidence based policymaking in baringo county. collaboration with moi university as mentor institution provides research supervision and quality assurance, while the iucea and african virtual university (avu) partnerships support distance learning research and regional standards compliance. kuc is in its formative phase with plans to establish research centres and innovation hubs. research output, though at an early stage, increasingly addresses the unique challenges of baringo's asal environment, including drought resilience, pastoralist livelihoods, and educational access in marginalised communities across the kerio valley.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
