Amref International University (AMIU)

Established in 2017 and built on Amref Health Africa's six decades of healthcare training experience, Amref International University (AMIU) is a private university located at Northlands, Nairobi. The university serves over 500 students across its Main Campus.

The university operates three schools including Medical Sciences, Public Health, and Graduate Studies. Its programmes are designed to address Africa's critical shortage of healthcare professionals, with a focus on public health, health systems management, and clinical practice.

Accredited by CUE, AMIU ranks 68th nationally. Amiu focuses on public and community health research, leveraging amref health africa's field experience across more than 30 african countries to generate evidence that drives policy change and improved practice. a groundbreaking consortium partnership with amref health africa, funded by the bill and melinda gates foundation, sponsors 20 scholars leading cutting edge research in primary health care, reproductive maternal newborn child and adolescent health, neglected tropical diseases, health financing, and global health security — set to impact over 20 million people across six countries. current projects include a mental health workforce training initiative with the who centre for mental health research at the university of verona (italy), and the maps project on migration and forced displacement in sub saharan africa with multiple european and african university partners. the mastercard foundation's learning for life programme funds postgraduate scholarships. amiu's research increasingly informs national and regional health policy, with particular strengths in community health systems, health workforce development, and equitable health service delivery across sub saharan africa.
