The East African University (TEAU)

Founded in 2005 by a group of professionals and business leaders, The East African University (TEAU) received its Letter of Interim Authority in 2010 and was chartered on 12th September 2022. Located 10 kilometres south of Kitengela in Kajiado County, along the Nairobi-Kajiado-Namanga highway, TEAU serves over 3,000 students across its Main and Nairobi CBD campuses.

The university operates three schools: Business and Management Studies, Computer Science and Information Technology, and Education Arts and Social Sciences. Its strategic location — 40 kilometres from Nairobi and connected to JKIA — makes it accessible to both local and international students from the East African Community.

Accredited by CUE, the IUCEA, and TVETA, TEAU ranks 58th nationally. Its vision to be a leading institution and centre of excellence in university teaching, research, and development drives its commitment to affordable, quality higher education for the East African region.

Teau's research is coordinated through the directorate of research, innovation, consultancy and extension (rice), which serves as the engine of knowledge creation, transformation, and community impact. rice drives multidisciplinary research initiatives that address pressing societal challenges, with priority areas including agriculture, food security, climate change resilience, public health advancement, youth empowerment through employment, and enterprise development. the school of business and management studies conducts research on business innovation, entrepreneurship, and enterprise development, while the school of computer science and information technology investigates ict for development, software engineering, and digital transformation. the school of education, arts and social sciences advances research on educational quality, social transformation, and community development. the rice directorate fosters sustainable linkages between academia, industry, and government, with the goal of increasing the volume and impact of applied research across all teau disciplines. partnership with the east african community (eac) academic network, iucea, and the african virtual university (avu) supports regional research collaboration and standards compliance. research output increasingly informs business practice, ict adoption, and community development across kajiado county and the broader east african region.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
