Gretsa University (GU)

Established in September 2006 after receiving a Letter of Interim Authority from the Commission for Higher Education, Gretsa University was chartered in 2023. Located in Thika Municipality, Kiambu County, with a Makuyu campus in Murang'a County, the university serves over 2,000 students.

The university operates seven schools including Business, Computing, Education, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, Hospitality, and Graduate Studies. It began with three degree programmes in Business, Computer Science, and Hospitality, and has expanded to serve the growing educational needs of the Thika-Murang'a corridor.

Accredited by CUE, the institution ranks 62nd nationally. Its location in Thika — Kenya's industrial hub — positions it as a key provider of business and technology education for the industrial and agricultural communities of central Kenya.

Gretsa university focuses on applied research in business, agriculture, and technology, with emphasis on community relevant solutions that address societal problems through research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. the directorate of research and publications coordinates research activities across the university's seven schools, with particular strengths in strategic management and organisational behaviour. the school of business conducts research on entrepreneurship, sme development, and value chain management relevant to thika's industrial economy, while the school of computing investigates ict applications for small enterprises and digital inclusion. the school of hospitality and the school of health sciences contribute research on hospitality management and community health respectively. the university's digital repository provides a platform for the collection, preservation, and dissemination of academic work, with open access to local and international research. research output, though modest, increasingly addresses the economic and social needs of thika, makuyu, and the broader kiambu murang'a region, bridging academic inquiry with practical community impact.
