Egerton University (Egerton)

Founded in 1939 as Egerton Farm School by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, Egerton University is Kenya's oldest agricultural institution. Granted a charter in 1987, the university is located in Njoro, Nakuru County, and serves over 20,000 students across its Main and Town campuses.

The university operates nine faculties including Agriculture, Engineering and Technology, Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, Education and Community Studies, Science, Environment and Natural Resources, and Commerce. The university's Tatton Agricultural Park and Agro-Science Park are hubs for agricultural innovation and technology transfer.

Accredited by CUE, the institution ranks 6th nationally. Its deep agricultural heritage makes it the leading institution for agricultural science, food security research, and agribusiness training in Kenya and the East African region.

Egerton hosts 86 ongoing research projects anchored by the tegemeo institute of agricultural policy and development, kenya's leading agricultural economics research centre, which shapes national policy on food security, trade, and rural development. the crop management research training (cmrt) centre, jointly established with kalro and cimmyt, trains agricultural scientists across the region, while the agroscience park commercialises innovations in seed technology and post harvest management. partnerships with the university of natural resources and life sciences (boku, austria), ruforum, and anafe strengthen research in indigenous livestock improvement, dairy value chains, and dryland cereals. the usaid funded dryland cereals project and the indigenous chicken improvement programme (incip) deliver direct impact to smallholder farmers. egerton's njoro river rehabilitation initiative demonstrates its commitment to environmental restoration alongside agricultural productivity.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
