Bomet University (BU)

Established in 2017 as Bomet University College, a constituent college of Moi University, and chartered in 2025, Bomet University is located in Bomet Town, Bomet County. The university serves over 8,000 students across its Main Campus.

The university operates four schools including Education, Business and Economics, Arts and Social Sciences, and Science and Technology. Its location in the South Rift region supports research in agriculture and community development.

Accredited by CUE and the IUCEA, the university ranks 24th nationally. It is the only public university headquartered in Bomet County, serving as the primary higher education institution for the communities of Kenya's South Rift tea and dairy belt.

Bomet university focuses on agricultural innovation, environmental conservation, and community health, with research output including studies on sustainable farming practices suited to the tea and dairy highlands of the south rift. the school of science and technology conducts research on environmental science, water quality, and appropriate technologies for agricultural processing, while the agriculture demonstration farm serves as a practical research site for crop trials and livestock improvement. the university's vision as a 'green university' drives research on climate change adaptation, renewable energy, and environmental sustainability. partnership with the african virtual university (avu) expands open and distance learning access, while the iucea affiliation ensures regional standards. the school of business and economics investigates agricultural value chains, co operative enterprise models, and sme development relevant to bomet's tea and dairy economy. research output increasingly informs county level agricultural and environmental policy across bomet and the surrounding south rift counties.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
