The Bachelor of Arts in Kiswahili is a four-year degree programme that provides students with comprehensive knowledge of Kiswahili language, linguistics, literature, and translation.

The curriculum covers Kiswahili grammar, linguistics, literature, oral traditions, poetry, prose, translation theory and practice, language planning, pragmatics, discourse analysis, and research methods.

Students develop competencies in linguistic analysis, literary criticism, translation and interpretation, research methods, communication skills, and cultural awareness. The programme offers three specialisation tracks: Language and Linguistics, Literature and its Application, and Translation Theory and Practice.

Graduates pursue careers as Kiswahili teachers, translators, interpreters, editors, writers, media personalities, researchers, linguistic consultants, and civil servants. They find employment in schools, universities, media houses, publishing firms, government ministries, translation agencies, and international organisations.

The programme is offered at multiple universities including Moi University, Maseno University, Kisii University, Pwani University, Rongo University, Bomet University, and University of Eastern Africa, Baraton. Annual fees range from KSH 138,720 at Pwani University to KSH 161,600 at UEAB.

Accreditation is provided by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Admission requires a KCSE mean grade of C+ with a minimum of C+ in Kiswahili, following KUCCPS cluster subject requirements. The programme consists of at least forty-four course units taken over eight semesters.
