Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVST)

Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) is a public TVET institution established in 1978 under the Ministry of Education in Kenya. Located in Nakuru, it serves the Rift Valley region and beyond, offering a wide range of technical and vocational programmes.

The institute's mission is to provide quality hands-on training that equips students with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship. RVIST offers diploma and certificate courses in engineering (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil), information technology, business management, hospitality, and applied sciences.

It is a key player in Kenya's TVET sector, contributing to the government's agenda of enhancing technical education to bridge the skills gap and drive industrialization.

Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Nakuru County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
