Butere Technical and Vocational College (BTVC)

Butere Technical and Vocational College, located in Butere, Kakamega County, was established in 2016 to provide accessible and quality technical education to the local community and beyond. The college is committed to empowering youth with practical skills aligned to Kenya's Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

It offers a range of certificate and diploma programs in engineering, ICT, business, and applied sciences, focusing on hands-on training and industry readiness. As a TVET institution, it plays a vital role in bridging the skills gap in Western Kenya, producing graduates who contribute to both formal employment and entrepreneurship.

Butere Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kakamega County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
