Master of Medicine in Clinical Pathology

The Master of Medicine in Clinical Pathology is a postgraduate medical specialty programme that trains medical doctors to become specialist clinical pathologists. A day as a student

A typical day during the MMed Clinical Pathology residency begins with morning laboratory rounds reviewing pending tests, critical results, and quality control data. Residents spend time in different laboratory sections including clinical chemistry analysing biochemical results, haematology examining blood films and interpreting full blood counts, microbiology reviewing culture and sensitivity results, and transfusion medicine managing blood bank operations. Academic sessions include lectures on clinical pathology principles, case discussions linking laboratory findings to clinical diagnoses, and journal clubs reviewing recent research. Residents participate in clinical case consultations with treating physicians, providing interpretive guidance on complex laboratory results. Research methodology sessions prepare residents for their dissertation. The programme at Aga Khan University is based at the hospital in Nairobi with well-resourced laboratory facilities.
