Bachelor of Science in Science Chemistry

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry is a four-year programme offered at the University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, JKUAT, Kibabai University, and other institutions. A day as a student

Students attend morning lectures on organic mechanisms, thermodynamics, or analytical methods, then spend extensive hours in the chemistry lab — synthesising compounds, running titrations, using spectrophotometers, HPLC, GC, and other analytical instruments. Lab work is intensive and requires precision, safety consciousness, and careful record-keeping. Group projects involve synthesising and characterising compounds, analysing real samples (water, food, pharmaceuticals), and presenting results. Industrial attachment at manufacturing companies, KEBS, or research institutions provides practical analytical and industrial chemistry experience.
