Overview
The curriculum covers analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, spectroscopy, chromatography, electrochemistry, quality assurance, laboratory management, environmental analysis, industrial chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, statistics, research methods and a research project. Students develop laboratory and analytical skills.
Kenya's manufacturing sector, environmental monitoring needs and quality control requirements create demand for analytical chemistry graduates. The programme is offered through lectures, intensive laboratory sessions, industrial attachment and research projects.
Graduates are prepared for careers as analytical chemists, quality control analysts, laboratory managers, environmental analysts, forensic chemists, research scientists, instrumentation specialists and chemical consultants. They work in pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing, environmental agencies, research institutions, government laboratories and consulting firms.
The programme is accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Admission requires KCSE mean grade C+ with C+ in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics or Biology, and English or Kiswahili. KUCCPS Cluster 4.
