Bachelor of Philosophy in Technology in Analytical Chemistry
The Bachelor of Philosophy in Technology in Analytical Chemistry is a two-year integrated postgraduate technical programme at the Technical University of Kenya that prepares diploma holders for advanced analytical chemistry practice. Students study advanced analytical chemistry, instrumentation, quality assurance, separation techniques and industrial applications. The programme builds on prior diploma training to develop specialist analytical chemistry competencies.
Students develop advanced competencies in spectroscopy, chromatography, electrochemistry, sample preparation, quality control and method validation. They learn to operate analytical instruments, develop analytical methods, ensure data quality and support industrial and research laboratories. The programme covers analytical instrumentation, separation techniques, quality assurance and applied chemistry.
In Kenya, analytical chemists are needed in pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, water, oil and gas, environmental monitoring and research institutions. The Technical University of Kenya offers this programme through its School of Pure and Applied Sciences. Graduates find roles in quality control laboratories, research institutes, environmental agencies, manufacturing firms and testing companies.
Teaching is delivered through lectures, laboratory practicals, research projects and industrial exposure. Students use chromatography, spectroscopy, electrochemical and other analytical instruments, and undertake a final research project.
