Nyandarua University College (NYUC)

Established in 2016 as a public constituent college under Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), Nyandarua University College is located in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. The college was created to expand higher education access in Nyandarua County — one of Kenya's agricultural heartlands — which previously had no university presence.

The college serves over 3,500 students through three schools: Education, Business and Economics, and Science and Technology. Its location in Ol Kalou connects it to the agricultural economy of the institution, with programmes designed to address the region's educational, agricultural, and technological needs.

Accredited by CUE and the IUCEA, the university ranks 68th nationally. It is the only public university college headquartered in Nyandarua County, serving as the primary gateway to higher education for the communities of Kenya's central highlands.

Research at nyandarua university college focuses on agriculture and education, with growing capacity supported by dekut's mentorship and the college's location in one of kenya's prime agricultural regions. the school of science and technology conducts research on agricultural technologies, environmental science, and appropriate technologies for highland farming systems, leveraging nyandarua's agricultural economy to ground research in practical community needs. the school of education advances pedagogical research on teaching quality, educational access in rural communities, and values based education. the school of business and economics investigates entrepreneurship, agricultural value chains, and sme development relevant to nyandarua's economy. partnership with dekut provides access to established research infrastructure and faculty supervision, while the iucea and avu connections support regional standards and distance learning research. research output, though at an early stage, increasingly informs agricultural practice, educational policy, and enterprise development across nyandarua county and the central highlands region.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
