Established in 1991 as a constituent college of Moi University and chartered in 2001, Maseno University is located in Maseno, Kisumu County, along the shores of Lake Victoria. The university serves over 18,000 students across its Main, Kisumu City, and Homa Bay campuses.
The university operates 15 schools including Medicine, Nursing, Business and Economics, Education, Computing and Informatics, Law, Agriculture and Food Security, and Public Health and Community Development. The School of Medicine is based at the Kisumu City Campus, leveraging Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for clinical training.
Accredited by CUE, the institution ranks 5th nationally. It is the only Kenyan university located along the Lake Victoria basin, giving it a unique research focus on freshwater ecology, tropical medicine, and regional public health.
