About
Founded in 2008 as Narok University College, a constituent college of Moi University, and chartered in 2013, Maasai Mara University (MMU) is located in Narok town, approximately 147 kilometres west of Nairobi. The university serves over 10,000 students across its Main Campus.
The university operates six schools including Arts and Social Sciences, Business and Economics, Education, Science and Natural Resources, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Agriculture and Environmental Studies. Its location near the the institution the institution ecosystem gives it a unique focus on wildlife conservation and tourism management.

Research
Mmu focuses on wildlife conservation, environmental science, tourism management, and community development, leveraging its proximity to the maasai mara national reserve and the greater mara serengeti ecosystem. the school of tourism and hospitality management conducts research on sustainable tourism practices, community based conservation models, and the economic impact of wildlife tourism on local maasai communities. the school of science and natural resources advances research on biodiversity conservation, human wildlife conflict mitigation, and rangeland management in the mara ecosystem. partnerships with the african wildlife foundation (awf) and the world wide fund for nature (wwf) support collaborative research on wildlife conservation and community engagement. the school of agriculture and animal sciences investigates pastoralist livestock systems and drought resilience strategies for narok's semi arid environment. research output increasingly informs conservation policy and tourism management practices in narok county and the greater mara region, bridging academic research with community level conservation impact.
