Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU)

Established in 2015 as Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO), a constituent college of the University of Nairobi, and chartered in 2022, Kaimosi Friends University is located in Kaimosi, Vihiga County. The university serves over 2,500 students across its Main Campus.

The university operates five schools including Education and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Business and Economics, Health Sciences, and Agriculture. Its Quaker heritage traces to the Friends United Meeting (FUM) mission at the institution, which established the first educational institutions in the area.

Accredited by CUE and the FUM Education Council, the institution ranks 51st nationally. It is the only public university headquartered in Vihiga County, serving as the primary higher education institution for the communities of Kenya's western Vihiga region.

Research at kaimosi friends university focuses on community development, education, and theology, with growing output in sustainable agriculture and social sciences that reflects the institution's quaker heritage and its location in western kenya. the school of agriculture and natural resources conducts research on crop improvement, soil management, and sustainable farming practices suited to the vihiga area's highland ecosystem, while the school of health sciences investigates community health challenges in partnership with local health facilities. the school of education and social sciences advances pedagogical research and studies on quaker educational heritage in kenya, building on over a century of friends church educational work in the kaimosi area. partnership with mmust and the iucea supports collaborative research and regional standards compliance. the friends united meeting (fum) connection links kafu to global quaker educational networks. the school of business and economics investigates agricultural value chains and sme development in vihiga county. research output increasingly informs county level agricultural and educational policy across vihiga and the wider western kenya region.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
