Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK)

Established in 1998 as Great Lakes College of Kisumu and chartered in 2006, Great Lakes University of Kisumu (GLUK) is a private university located in Kisumu, Kisumu County. The university serves over 4,000 students across its Main and Nairobi campuses.

The university operates five faculties including Agribusiness and Technology, Community Health and Development, Nursing and Midwifery, Education, and Business. Its community health programmes are nationally recognised, with the Tropical Institute of Community Health and Development (TICH) as a key partner.

Accredited by CUE and TICH, GLUK ranks 45th nationally. Its specialised focus on community health and development makes it a leading institution for public health training in Kenya's Lake Victoria region and the broader the institution the institution area of East Africa.

Gluk focuses on community based health research, water and sanitation, and theological studies, with growing output in peer reviewed publications that address the health challenges of the lake victoria basin and the great lakes region. the school of community health and development conducts pioneering research on community based health information systems (cbis), linking community level data with institutional health systems for effective decision making — implemented in kisumu, busia, and other western kenya counties. partnership with who and kemri supports collaborative research on tropical diseases, public health interventions, and health systems strengthening. the tich affiliation ensures that research remains community grounded and practically oriented, with a focus on vulnerable populations in the lake region. the school of nursing and midwifery advances research on maternal and child health, while the faculty of agribusiness and technology investigates food security and agricultural value chains. research output increasingly informs county level health policy, community health worker training, and public health interventions across western kenya and the great lakes region.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
