Consolata International University (CIU)

Originally established as the Consolata Institute of Philosophy and upgraded to university status in 2025, Consolata International University is a private Catholic university located in Nairobi, Kenya. The university serves over 200 students across its Main Campus.

The university operates three faculties including Theology, Philosophy, and the Institute of Social Communication. Its Consolata Missionary heritage emphasises cross-cultural mission formation, philosophical inquiry, and communication studies rooted in Catholic intellectual tradition.

Accredited by CUE, the university ranks 75th nationally. As a relatively new institution, it builds on the Consolata Missionaries' century-long presence in Eastern Africa, training religious and lay leaders for the Catholic Church's mission across the continent.

Ciu focuses on research in philosophy, theology, and psychology, rooted in the consolata missionaries' tradition of academic and spiritual formation that has shaped east african catholic education for over a century. the faculty of theology advances research on catholic theology, african christianity, and the consolata missionary legacy in east africa, producing scholarship that informs the catholic church's engagement with african culture and society. the faculty of philosophy investigates philosophical anthropology, ethics, and african philosophy, while the institute of social communication conducts research on media, communication, and the church's use of digital media for evangelisation. partnership with the consolata missionaries in rome connects ciu to a global network of catholic scholarship and missionary research. the cuea affiliation supports collaborative research in theology and religious studies. research output, though at an early stage, increasingly informs catholic church policy, philosophical discourse, and communication studies in kenya, bridging the consolata missionary heritage with contemporary academic challenges.
