Uriri Technical and Vocational College (UTVC)

Established in 2016, Uriri Technical and Vocational College has grown into a key provider of hands-on skills training in Migori County, southwestern Kenya. The college was founded under the government's initiative to expand TVET access in rural areas, addressing youth unemployment and skill gaps in agriculture, construction, and ICT. Its mission is to equip learners with market-relevant competencies through competency-based education and training (CBET) aligned to industry needs.

The college offers a range of certificates and diplomas, including in agribusiness, building technology, information communication technology, electrical installation, and automotive engineering.

Accredited by TVETA and KNEC, the institution serves as a key technical training centre for the region, supporting the local economy with skilled graduates.

Uriri Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Migori County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
