Masai Technical Training Institute (MTTI)

Masai Technical Training Institute (MTTI) was established in 1970 in Kajiado County to provide technical and vocational education to the Maasai community and surrounding regions in Kenya. Originally a youth polytechnic, it was upgraded to a technical training institute in 2009 under the TVET Act.

The institute's mission is to produce competent, innovative, and ethical graduates through hands-on training and industry linkages. MTTI offers a wide range of certificate and diploma programs in engineering, ICT, business, applied sciences, and hospitality.

As a key TVET provider in the Rift Valley, MTTI contributes to Kenya's Big Four Agenda by equipping youth with skills for employment and entrepreneurship. The institute has strong partnerships with local industries and community-based organizations, facilitating practical attachments and job placements.

Masai Technical Training Institute conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kajiado County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
