Kiirua Technical Training Institute (KTTI)

Kiirua Technical Training Institute (KTTI) was established in 1979 as a Government Technical Training Institute under the Ministry of Education. Located in Meru County, it has grown to become a key provider of middle-level technical and vocational education in eastern Kenya.

Its mission is to produce competent and innovative graduates for the local and national labor market. The institute offers over 20 programs in Engineering, ICT, Business, Applied Sciences, and Hospitality, including diplomas and craft certificates.

KTTI plays a vital role in Kenya's Big Four Agenda and the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework, ensuring graduates meet industry standards.

Kiirua Technical Training Institute conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Meru County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
