Karumo Technical Training Institute (KT2)

Karumo Technical Training Institute (KTTI) was established in 2011 as a public TVET institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kenya. Located in Tharaka-Nithi County, the institute was founded to address the growing demand for skilled technical and vocational graduates in the region.

Its mission is to provide quality, accessible, and affordable technical education that empowers youth with practical skills for self-reliance and employment. KTTI offers a wide range of programmes including Diploma and Certificate courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Business Management, and Hospitality.

Karumo Technical Training Institute conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Meru County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
