Garsen Technical and Vocational College (GTV)

Garsen Technical and Vocational College (GTVC) was established in 2011 to address the skills gap in Tana River County and the coastal region of Kenya. The college is situated in Garsen town and serves a diverse student body from pastoralist and agrarian communities.

Its mission is to provide competency-based education and training (CBET) that equips learners with practical skills for self-employment and the local labor market. The institution offers certificate and diploma programs in agriculture, fisheries, building and construction, electrical engineering, information technology, and business management.

As a key TVET provider in a marginalized area, GTVC focuses on sustainable livelihoods and community development, partnering with local industries and government agencies to enhance apprenticeships and job placement.

Garsen Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Tana River County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
