Centre for Tourism Training and Research (TR)

The Centre for Tourism Training and Research (CTTR) was established in 1998 as a specialized TVET institution under the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. Its mission is to produce skilled professionals who drive Kenya's tourism sector, a key pillar of the economy.

The The institution offers diploma and certificate programmes in tourism management, travel operations, hotel management, and ecotourism, blending classroom theory with hands-on training at partner lodges and tour companies. As a TVETA-accredited and KNQA-recognized institution, CTTR plays a vital role in equipping youth for careers in hospitality, tour guiding, and event management, contributing to Kenya's goal of becoming a top African travel destination.

In 2026, CTTR continues to adapt to market trends by integrating digital marketing and sustainable tourism practices into its curriculum.

Centre for Tourism Training and Research conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Nairobi County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
