Diploma in Horticulture Farm Technology

This Level 5 competency-based programme prepares students to run the technology and field operations of a modern horticultural farm, from nursery and propagation to greenhouse production, irrigation, and post-harvest handling. It focuses on practical, hands-on competencies that make graduates immediately useful on commercial vegetable, fruit, and flower farms.

Students learn to establish and manage a plant nursery, propagate horticultural crops, set up and operate a greenhouse, install and run drip irrigation, manage soil fertility and fertigation, control pests and diseases, harvest and handle produce, keep farm records, and operate basic farm machinery and tools. A day as a student

A typical day is mostly practical. Mornings begin with a short theory briefing on propagation, irrigation, pest control, or greenhouse management, followed by long hands-on sessions in the nursery, greenhouse, or college farm. Students raise seedlings, prepare potting media, set up drip lines, mix fertiliser solutions, scout for pests and diseases, prune and train crops, and harvest, grade, and pack produce. They also practise keeping farm records and operating basic tools. During industrial attachment, learners work under a farm supervisor on a commercial vegetable, flower, or nursery enterprise, applying competencies in real production conditions.
