Diploma in Forestry Management

The Diploma in Forestry is a TVET-CDACC examined programme offered at Kenya Forestry College and other accredited institutions. The course covers forest resource management, silviculture, forest ecology, agroforestry, forest inventory, forest protection, and climate change mitigation across progressive modules.

Students develop competencies in tree nursery management, forest establishment, forest measurement and inventory, fire management, forest conservation, and community forestry. The programme includes paramilitary training emphasising discipline and fieldwork readiness, reflecting the operational nature of forestry work.

Kenya's commitment to achieving 10 percent tree cover, the Forest Conservation and Management Act, and growing emphasis on climate change mitigation have created demand for qualified forestry personnel. The Kenya Forest Service, county governments, conservation NGOs, and private timber companies recruit diploma holders for forest management and conservation roles.

The programme combines classroom theory with extensive fieldwork in forests, nurseries, and conservation areas. Students participate in tree planting, forest inventory exercises, fire management training, and nursery operations. Field attachments with Kenya Forest Service stations or conservation organisations provide practical forestry experience.

Graduates work as forest assistants, forestry technicians, nursery managers, and conservation officers with the Kenya Forest Service, county governments, NGOs, and private timber companies. The qualification enables progression to degree programmes in forestry or natural resource management.
