Diploma in Community Health

The Diploma in Community Health is a KNEC-examined programme that trains individuals in comprehensive community health practice, public health management, and health systems support. The programme is accredited by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) and examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Trainees develop competencies in community health assessment, epidemiology, health programme management, health promotion, disease control, health policy, and research methods. The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with extensive community-based practice and clinical attachments.

Kenya's community health strategy is a cornerstone of the Universal Health Coverage agenda, requiring skilled community health professionals at the county and sub-county levels. The programme supports the Ministry of Health's community health transformation agenda.

The course is delivered through classroom sessions, community field practice, and supervised attachments at health facilities and community health units. Trainees conduct community health assessments, participate in health campaigns, and manage community health data.

Graduates can work as community health officers, public health assistants, health programme coordinators, or community health trainers in county health departments, NGOs, and international health organisations. The programme provides a foundation for progression to Bachelor of Science in Public Health.

This programme is suitable for individuals with a KCSE mean grade of C (plain) who have a passion for community health. It provides advanced skills for employment in Kenya's community and public health sector.
