Bachelor of Science in Electronics
The Bachelor of Science in Electronics is a four-year degree programme that focuses on electronic circuits, devices, and systems. The programme prepares graduates to design, build, and maintain electronic equipment and systems.
The curriculum covers analogue electronics, digital electronics, circuit analysis, semiconductor devices, microprocessors, signals and systems, communication systems, control systems, electromagnetic theory, electronic instrumentation, power electronics, embedded systems, computer programming, VLSI design, robotics, and engineering management.
Teaching combines lectures, laboratory practicals, circuit design projects, industrial attachment, and a research project. Students develop skills in circuit analysis, electronic system design, microcontroller programming, and signal processing. The programme emphasises practical electronics and hands-on laboratory work.
Graduates pursue careers as electronics engineers, embedded systems developers, instrumentation technicians, broadcast engineers, maintenance engineers, and electronics designers. Opportunities exist in telecommunications companies, broadcasting corporations, manufacturing firms, research institutions, government agencies, and electronics repair and maintenance companies.
The programme is offered at South Eastern Kenya University, a public university in Kitui County. Admission requires a KCSE mean grade of C+ with C+ in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. The programme runs for eight semesters with September and January intakes.
Accreditation is provided by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Annual tuition is approximately KES 244,800 at South Eastern Kenya University based on KUCCPS data.
