Overview
The curriculum covers engineering mathematics, textile materials, yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, textile chemistry, garment manufacturing, textile testing, quality control, industrial engineering, production planning, operations research, plant layout, work study, CAD/CAM for textiles, textile machinery, research methods and a final year project. Students develop skills in textile production and industrial optimisation.
Kenya's textile industry, the government's push for local textile manufacturing and the AGOA export market create demand for textile engineering graduates. The programme is offered through lectures, laboratory sessions, workshop practice, industrial attachment and design projects.
Graduates are prepared for careers as textile engineers, production engineers, quality control engineers, industrial engineers, plant managers, textile technologists, process engineers and production managers. They work in textile mills, garment factories, leather industry, manufacturing companies, research institutions and as consultants.
The programme is accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). Admission requires KCSE mean grade C+ with B- in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. KUCCPS Cluster 3.
