Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Sports

The Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Sports is a four-year programme that prepares students for teaching physical education and coaching sports in secondary schools. Students study physical education theory, sports science, coaching methodology, anatomy, physiology, education theory and curriculum development. The programme combines PE teaching with sports coaching, preparing graduates who can deliver both curriculum PE and competitive sports programmes.

Students develop competencies in physical education teaching, sports coaching, anatomy and physiology, curriculum development, sports management, educational assessment and health promotion. They learn to teach PE, coach competitive sports, manage school sports programmes and promote health through physical activity. The programme covers both PE content and sports coaching methodology with teaching practice in secondary schools.

In Kenya, sports development is a national priority and the Competency-Based Curriculum emphasises physical activity. TSC employs PE and sports teachers. Kenya's success in athletics and growing interest in football, rugby and other sports creates demand for qualified sports educators. Graduates find roles in secondary schools, sports academies, sports organisations and educational institutions.

Teaching is delivered through lectures, practical sports sessions, coaching clinics, teaching practice, micro-teaching and research projects. Students develop coaching plans, teach PE classes, coach sports teams and undertake teaching practice. The programme includes a final-year research project.

Graduates pursue careers as PE and sports teachers, sports coaches, sports coordinators, athletics coaches and sports development officers. Some work in secondary schools teaching PE and coaching teams. Others join sports academies, sports organisations or fitness centres.

This programme is ideal for individuals with athletic ability, coaching interest and teaching passion. Students who enjoy sports, physical activity and education will find this programme particularly engaging.
