Established in 2007 as Kabianga University College, a constituent college of Moi University, and chartered in 2015, the University of Kabianga is located in Kericho County, in Kenya's tea-growing highlands. The university serves over 10,000 students across its Main Campus.
The university operates schools of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Business and Economics, Education, Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, and Natural Resources and Environmental Management. Its location in Kericho supports unique research in tea agronomy and highland agriculture.
Accredited by CUE, the university ranks 30th nationally. It is the only public university headquartered in Kericho County, serving as the primary higher education institution for the communities of Kenya's South Rift tea-growing region.

The university of kabianga focuses on research in agriculture, environmental science, and education, with a growing number of publications in regional journals. the school of agricultural sciences and natural resources conducts research on tea agronomy, dairy farming, and crop improvement, leveraging the university's location in kenya's tea growing highlands. in may 2025, the university signed a collaborative agreement with lipton teas and infusions to establish the lipton tea innovation and technology academy, a strategic initiative connecting academic research with the tea industry through partnerships with cranfield university, oxford university, and the university of amsterdam. partnership with the university of freiburg (germany) and daad supports faculty exchange and collaborative research in environmental science. the school of health sciences investigates public health challenges in the south rift, while the school of business and economics researches agricultural value chains and co operative enterprise models. research output increasingly informs tea industry innovation, agricultural extension, and county level development policy across kericho and bomet.
