Multimedia University of Kenya (MMUK)

Established in 1996 as the Kenya College of Communications Technology (KCCT) and chartered in 2013, Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) is located in Karen, Nairobi. The university serves over 10,000 students across its Main and Nairobi CBD campuses.

The university operates six faculties including Engineering and Technology, Computing and Information Technology, Media and Communication, Business and Economics, Arts and Social Sciences, and Science. Its media and communication programmes are the most specialised in Kenya, with strong links to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).

Accredited by CUE, MMU ranks 28th nationally. Its heritage as the former KCCT makes Kenya's premier institution for media, communications, and ICT training, producing journalists, broadcasters, and telecommunications professionals for the East African media industry.

Mmu has a strong focus on research in ict, telecommunications, media innovation, and engineering, with numerous publications in reputable international journals. the faculty of computing and information technology conducts research on data science, cybersecurity, ai, and digital transformation, while the faculty of engineering and technology advances research on telecommunications infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and electronic engineering. the faculty of media and communication investigates digital media, journalism ethics, and the evolving media landscape in east africa. partnerships with nokia, cisco networking academy, and ibm skills academy provide platforms for collaborative research in networking, iot, and cloud computing. collaboration with multimedia university (malaysia) supports faculty exchange, while the max planck international (germany) partnership and erasmus+ programme (austria) enhance research capacity. mmu's research increasingly informs telecommunications policy, digital media standards, and ict innovation in kenya, bridging its postal and telecommunications heritage with the digital economy agenda.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
