Kibabii University (KIBU)

Established in 2011 as a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and chartered in 2015, Kibabii University (KIBU) traces its origins to a long-envisioned Kibabii Teachers' Training College in Bungoma County. The university serves over 11,000 students across its Main Campus in Bungoma.

The university operates five schools including Computing and Informatics, Business and Economics, Arts and Social Sciences, Science, and Graduate Studies. Its focus on ICT and computing education addresses the growing technology skills gap in western Kenya.

Accredited by CUE, KIBU ranks 34th nationally. It is the only public university headquartered in Bungoma County, serving as the primary gateway to higher education for the communities of western Kenya's Bungoma region.

Kibu's research focuses on agricultural innovation, ict for development, and educational methodologies in the lake victoria region. the school of computing and informatics (scai) conducts research on software development, data analytics, and ict applications for rural development, while the faculty of science advances research in biological sciences, chemistry, and mathematics with applications to local agricultural and environmental challenges. partnership with nanjing university of science and technology (china) supports collaborative research in science and technology, while the iucea affiliation ensures regional standards compliance. the school of business and economics researches sme development, microfinance, and agricultural value chains relevant to bungoma's economy. research output, though growing, increasingly addresses community needs in western kenya, particularly in educational technology, food security, and digital inclusion for rural populations in bungoma and the surrounding counties.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
