Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)

Established in 1981 as Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture and Technology (JKCAT) through a bilateral agreement between the governments of Kenya and Japan, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was chartered in 1994 as a full public university. Located in Juja, Kiambu County, JKUAT serves over 40,000 students across multiple campuses.

The university operates 15 schools including Computing and Information Technology, Engineering, the institution, Medicine, Pharmacy, Law, and Business, plus institutes for Biotechnology Research and Energy and Environment Technology. Its Karen Campus houses the School of Law, while the main Juja campus is a hub for STEM education in Kenya.

Accredited by CUE and the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK), JKUAT ranks 2nd nationally. Its Japanese founding partnership continues through JICA support, and the university is widely regarded as Kenya's premier technology and engineering institution.

Jkuat ranks 8th in kenya for academic research output and 76th globally for innovation, with strengths in agricultural sciences, biotechnology, and computer science. the institute of biotechnology research and the institute of energy and environment technology spearhead advances in bioinformatics, renewable energy, and climate smart agriculture, while the newly launched jhub africa digital innovation hub drives data driven solutions for african industries. annual sustainable research and innovation (sri) conferences bring together academia and industry to commercialise research in sustainable manufacturing, clean energy, and digital transformation. partnerships with the japan international cooperation agency (jica), which helped establish jkuat's engineering programmes, and collaborations with microsoft and the ministry of agriculture ensure that research outputs translate into market ready innovations addressing food security, affordable housing, and healthcare access across kenya.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
