Hekima University College (HUC)

Founded in 1984 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), Hekima University College is a constituent college of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) located in Nairobi. The college serves over 300 students across its Main and HIPSIR campuses.

The college operates two faculties including Theology and the Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations (HIPSIR). Its Jesuit heritage emphasises intellectual rigour, social justice, and ecumenical dialogue. HIPSIR is one of Africa's leading institutes for peace and conflict studies.

Accredited by CUE, the institution ranks 71st nationally. As a Jesuit institution, it forms Catholic leaders for the Church and society, with a particular focus on theology, peacebuilding, and international relations across the African continent.

Hekima focuses on research in theology, peace studies, and african contextual theology, with publications through the centre for research training and the hekima review — the college's flagship academic journal. the faculty of theology advances research on catholic theology, african christianity, inculturation theology, and jesuit contributions to the african church, producing scholarship that informs theological formation and priestly training across the continent. the institute of peace studies and international relations (hipsir) conducts research on conflict resolution, peacebuilding, reconciliation, and international relations in africa, addressing the continent's security challenges from a faith based perspective. the jesuit historical institute in africa (jhia) supports historical research on the jesuit presence in africa, preserving archival materials and promoting scholarly inquiry into the society of jesus's contributions to african education and evangelisation. partnership with cuea connects hekima to the broader catholic university network, while the jesuit global network links the college to jesuit theological institutions worldwide. research output increasingly informs catholic church policy, peacebuilding practice, and african theological scholarship.
