Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT)

Founded in 1972 as Kimathi Institute of Technology (KIT), Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) was elevated to a constituent college of JKUAT in 2007 and chartered as a full public university in December 2012. Located along the Nyeri-Mweiga highway in Nyeri County, DeKUT serves over 12,500 students across its Main and Nairobi CBD campuses.

The university operates 12 schools including Engineering, Business Management and Economics, Computer Science and IT, Science, Nursing, and Graduate Studies. Its Institute of Geomatics, GIS and Remote Sensing, and the Water Resources and Environmental Engineering departments are nationally recognised.

Accredited by CUE and the Engineering Board of Kenya (EBK), DeKUT ranks 21st nationally. Named after Mau Mau freedom fighter the institution the institution, the university is Kenya's leading technology-focused institution in the central region.

Dekut's research is anchored by the dedan kimathi science and technology park (dest park), the first national project implemented by the ministry of education as a key enabler of kenya's vision 2030. the park hosts semiconductor technologies limited, which designed and built the ol'borana system — africa's first advanced semiconductor manufacturing system using precision robotics and nanotechnology. the geothermal energy training and research institute advances research in geothermal exploration and energy production, leveraging kenya's position as africa's largest geothermal producer. the institute of geomatics, gis and remote sensing (iggres) conducts spatial data research for natural resource management, while the coffee farm research centre drives coffee improvement. partnerships with ibm research africa, suzhou university (china), and kirdi connect academic research to industrial application. the dehub startup and incubation centre, film animation and gaming hub, and center for innovation and entrepreneurship management foster student innovation, producing market ready technologies for kenya's industrial transformation.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
