Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA)

Established in 1984 as the Catholic Theological Faculty of Eastern Africa and chartered in 1992, the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) is located in Lang'ata, Nairobi. The university serves over 8,000 students across campuses in Nairobi, Eldoret, and Kisumu.

The university operates 11 faculties including Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Law, Science, Theology, Commerce, and Social Ministry. Its Pontifical status allows it to grant ecclesiastical degrees alongside civil degrees, serving the Catholic Church across the AMECEA region.

Accredited by CUE and the Council of Legal Education (CLE), CUEA ranks 17th nationally. As the premier Catholic university in Eastern Africa, it serves students from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Malawi, forming both lay and religious leaders for the Church and society.

Cuea focuses on research in humanities, social sciences, theology, and law, with notable contributions to african ethical studies, peacebuilding, and interreligious dialogue. the faculty of theology advances research on african theology, church history, and moral theology, producing scholarship that informs the catholic church's engagement with african culture and society. the faculty of law conducts research on constitutionalism, human rights, and canon law, while the faculty of arts and social sciences investigates african philosophy, sociology, and political studies. partnership with the pontifical urban university (rome) supports theological research and faculty exchange, while collaboration with catholic relief services and missio aachen (germany) funds community based research projects. the faculty of education advances research on pedagogy and values based education. cuea's research increasingly informs church policy, peacebuilding initiatives, and ethical governance across the amecea region, bridging catholic intellectual tradition with african contextual challenges.

A C+ mean grade is the minimum for a Bachelor's degree; competitive programmes (medicine, engineering, law, nursing, architecture) require higher grades and specific KCSE subject clusters. Master's programmes require a relevant Bachelor's degree; PhD programmes a relevant Master's degree.
