Wajir East Technical and Vocational College (WETV)

Wajir East Technical and Vocational College, located in Wajir County, was established in 2018 to address the skills gap in the arid and semi-arid region of northeastern Kenya. The college is a public institution under the Ministry of Education, with a mission to provide competency-based training that empowers youth and promotes self-reliance in alignment with Kenya's Vision 2030.

It offers a range of Certificate and Diploma programs in fields such as Information Communication Technology, Business Studies, Agriculture, Electrical Engineering, and Building Technology, all tailored to the local economic needs such as pastoralism, trade, and emerging service sectors. The college plays a pivotal role in enhancing technical skills among the local population, contributing to poverty reduction and regional development, and is recognized by TVETA for its adherence to quality standards.

Wajir East Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Wajir County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
