Shamberere Technical Training Institute (STTI)

Shamberere Technical Training Institute is a public TVET institution in Kakamega County, Kenya. Located along the Kakamega-Webuye road at Kambi ya Mwanza, next to West Kenya Sugar Company in South Kabras, the institute serves over 2,000 students from the western region.

The institute offers diploma and certificate courses in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Building and Civil Engineering, Business Studies, Information Communication Technology, and Applied Sciences. Facilities include engineering workshops, science laboratories, computer labs, and a library.

Accredited by TVETA and KNEC, the institution is one of the largest technical training institutes in the county, serving as a key skills development centre for the western region.

Shamberere Technical Training Institute conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kakamega County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.

The institute requires a minimum KCSE mean grade of C- (Minus) for diploma programmes, D (Plain) for craft certificates, and open entry for artisan courses. Competitive programmes include Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Diploma in Civil Engineering, and Diploma in ICT. The institute accepts KUCCPS-placed and self-sponsored students. Government capitation and HELB loans are available for eligible students.
