Mwea Technical and Vocational College (MTV21)

Mwea Technical and Vocational College, located in Kirinyaga County, was established in 2015 to provide accessible and quality TVET education to the local community and beyond. The college was founded with the mission to equip students with practical skills and knowledge that meet the demands of the Kenyan labor market, thereby fostering self-reliance and economic development.

Over the years, it has grown to become a key institution in the region, offering a range of diploma and certificate programs in engineering, ICT, business, and agriculture.

Its commitment to hands-on training and community engagement has made it a preferred choice for many students seeking technical and vocational education.

Mwea Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kirinyaga County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
