Kisumu Polytechnic (KISPOLY)

Kisumu Polytechnic, established in 1972 as a technical training institute, is one of the premier TVET institutions in Kenya's Lake Region. Its mission is to provide quality, hands-on technical and vocational education that equips students with competencies for employment and entrepreneurship.

Over the decades, the polytechnic has expanded from a small workshop-based institute to a comprehensive polytechnic offering over 30 programmes across engineering, ICT, applied sciences, business, and hospitality.

Kisumu Polytechnic conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kisumu County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
