Ikutha Technical and Vocational College (ITV)

Ikutha Technical and Vocational College, located in Kitui County, was established in 2014 under the Kenya Technical Training Act to provide hands-on skills and technical education to the youth in the semi-arid lower eastern region. The college's mission is to equip students with practical competencies that align with the demands of the local and national labor market.

It offers diploma and certificate programs in Engineering (e.g., Automotive, Electrical, and Civil Engineering), ICT, Business Studies, and Agriculture. By bridging the skills gap, the college contributes significantly to Kenya's Vision 2030 goals of industrialization and poverty reduction in rural areas.

Its establishment has also strengthened the TVET ecosystem by providing an alternative pathway for academic and vocational excellence.

Ikutha Technical and Vocational College conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Kitui County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
