Gitwebe Technical Training Institute (GT3)

Gitwebe Technical Training Institute, located in Vihiga County, was established in 2010 as part of Kenya's initiative to expand access to vocational education. The institute was founded to address the skills gap in the region and provide hands-on training aligned with industry needs.

Over the years, it has grown from a small campus to a respected TVET institution serving hundreds of students annually. Its mission is to offer competency-based education and training that equips learners with practical skills for employment and self-reliance.

The institute emphasizes innovation, discipline, and community engagement, aiming to produce graduates who can contribute to local and national development.

Gitwebe Technical Training Institute conducts applied technical research and skills innovation aligned with the TVET CDACC Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) framework and Nyamira County development priorities. The institution hosts annual technical trade exhibitions and participates in regional KATTI research fairs, showcasing student and faculty innovations in renewable energy (solar and biogas installations), metal fabrication, agricultural mechanization, electrical building services, and ICT business solutions. Applied research projects collaborate with local informal sector artisans (Jua Kali), county vocational directorates, and community micro-enterprises to deliver practical engineering prototypes and community-level economic solutions.
