The Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology is a doctoral programme offered at JKUAT through the Institute of Biotechnology Research (IBR) and at the University of Nairobi through the Centre for Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (CEBIB).

The programme supports Kenya's biotechnology industry development goals.

Teaching is delivered through coursework, laboratory sessions and supervised research. At JKUAT, IBR offers PhD in Biotechnology with total cost KSh 510,500 over 3 years. Application fee KSh 1,500. At UoN, CEBIB offers PhD in Biotechnology by research, 36 months. Kenyan students KSh 380,000/year, foreign students US$ 6,500/year.
