Overview

Students engage with advanced translation theory, discourse analysis, translation technology, interpreting, and research methodology. The programme combines coursework with thesis research, requiring candidates to develop a research proposal, conduct independent translation research, and produce a doctoral dissertation that makes an original contribution to translation studies.

Kenya's multilingual society and role as a regional hub for diplomacy, business, and media create a strong need for skilled translators and interpreters. The programme addresses national priorities under Vision 2030 by training researchers who can advance translation scholarship, develop translation resources, and support language services in government, media, and civil society.
