Diploma in Textile Engineering
The Diploma in Textile Engineering is a KNEC-examined programme that trains technicians in textile production processes, fabric technology, and quality control. The course covers spinning technology, weaving technology, textile processing, fabric formation, textile testing, and quality assurance across progressive modules.
Students develop competencies in textile machinery operation, fabric production, dyeing and finishing, textile testing, and quality control. The programme covers the full textile value chain from fibre processing through to finished fabric production.
Kenya's textile and apparel sector, supported by AGOA trade preferences, Export Processing Zones, and government manufacturing incentives, has created demand for qualified textile technicians. Textile factories, garment manufacturers, and quality control laboratories recruit diploma holders for production and technical roles.
The programme combines classroom theory with extensive workshop practicals in spinning, weaving, dyeing, and fabric testing. Students operate textile machinery, conduct fabric tests, and participate in production exercises. A supervised industrial attachment with a textile factory provides hands-on manufacturing experience.
Graduates work as textile technicians, production supervisors, quality control assistants, and fabric technologists in textile mills, garment factories, and EPZ manufacturing facilities. Employers include textile factories in Nairobi, Athi River, and Kisumu regions.
This programme is suitable for KCSE graduates with a mean grade of C- (minus) who have aptitude in technical subjects and are interested in textile manufacturing and quality control.

A typical day on the Diploma in Textile Engineering blends theory with practice.
