Bachelor of Science in Military Science

The Bachelor of Science in Military Science is a programme that provides comprehensive training in military operations, defence studies and security management. Offered at the National Defence University Kenya (NDU-K) and other select institutions, the programme prepares graduates for careers in the military, security and defence sectors.

The curriculum covers military history, military strategy, tactics, leadership, national security, intelligence studies, international relations, peace and conflict studies, military law, logistics management, command and control, military technology, counterterrorism, peacekeeping operations, research methods and a research project. Students develop analytical and leadership skills for military and security contexts.

Kenya's security challenges, regional instability and peacekeeping commitments create demand for military science graduates. The programme is offered through lectures, field exercises, military training, simulations and research projects.

Graduates are prepared for careers as military officers, intelligence analysts, security consultants, defence researchers, security managers, peacekeeping officers, logistics officers and security policy analysts. They work in the Kenya Defence Forces, National Intelligence Service, police, security consulting firms, international organisations and government.

The programme is accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Admission is typically through military recruitment or sponsorship, with KCSE mean grade C+ with C+ in Mathematics, English and any science subject. KUCCPS Cluster 3.

Prospective students should have strong analytical skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and an interest in contributing to Kenya's socio-economic development. The programme provides a solid foundation for further postgraduate study and professional advancement in related fields.
